Medicaid Care Experience SimulationAbout the Project
The Ohio Department of Medicaid has worked with a number of Ohio's medical and health sciences colleges to improve the care and quality of life of Medicaid enrollees. The Medicaid Care Experience Simulation Project uses virtual reality, three-dimensional multimedia sensory environments, as an education tool to improve Medicaid providers' cultural competency and increase awareness of social determinants of health.
This project is funded by the Ohio Department of Medicaid and administered by the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center. The views expressed in this virtual reality simulation are solely those of the creators and do not represent the views of the state of Ohio or federal Medicaid programs.
The first two simulations were developed at Ohio University by the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab in collaboration with the following units: the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Diabetes Institute, the College of Fine Arts, and the College of Health Sciences and Professions. In 2021, Ohio University joined forces with experts from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences to develop and disseminate additional simulations. Special thanks to the MetroHealth Simulation Institute for their consultation and dissemination based on their extensive experience in delivering high fidelity, immersive simulation programming to a broad audience.
The virtual reality technology for all simulations was developed via the Ohio University's Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab based in the Ohio University Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies.
